Design cohesive book covers that conceptually represent two stories from the podcast Criminal by Phoebe Judge, using audio as the primary source material.
I listened to the episodes on Joan Little v. North Carolina and the Hot Lotto case multiple times to fully understand their themes. I developed concepts for each story, then translated them into abstract, texture-driven compositions with rubber cement and black ink.
Client: Criminal
Project: Book Covers
Software: Illustrator

After listening to each episode, I brainstormed and sketched multiple concepts. I explored abstract forms and compositions until I identified a direction that felt right for each story. These sketches clarified the visual approach and guided the final designs.

For Hot Lotto, I illustrated a head filled with lottery balls to explore themes of obsession, chance, and corruption tied to Eddie Tipton. The bold imagery and strong contrast highlight the psychological intensity behind the events.

For Joan Little v. North Carolina, I designed an empty birdcage to symbolize confinement, injustice, and the struggle for freedom at the center of her case. The open space emphasizes restraint and tension, reflecting the deeper social and legal themes surrounding her story.
